What You Need to Know Before Your IPL Consultation Appointment

Congratulation! You’ve decided to book an IPL!

Before we see you for treatment, we start with a consultation…yes, even if you’ve had treatment elsewhere before.

During the consultation, we will carefully assess your skin and hair, listen to your concerns, and guide you through the benefits and potential risks of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment. From addressing your queries to giving you an honest evaluation, at Naked Yeti, we strive to ensure that you leave the consultation feeling confident and informed about the transformative possibilities of IPL.

What Happens at the Consultation?

You will be asked to fill out a medical history questionnaire - Although IPL is generally a very safe treatment, some conditions or drugs are contraindicated with IPL. Examples of contraindications are: diabetes, pregnancy, diseases stimulated by light, cancer; particularly skin cancer, epilepsy, use of photosensitive medications/herbs, and active herpes in the treatment area.

We will assess your skin and hair - Determining your Fitzpatrick and hair type will help us decide on the best machine settings to target your hair type. If you are coming in for IPL hair reduction, we must be able to see hair at your consultation. PLEASE BE SURE THAT YOU HAVE AT LEAST A WEEKS WORTH OF HAIR GROWTH FOR YOUR CONSULTATION.

Patch test - Three patch tests are performed to test for skin reactions.

Then What?

After the consultation, you will be asked to take note and let us know if you have any redness or feelings of sunburn in the test patch area. We can proceed with treatment within 24 hours of the consultation. If you are coming in for IPL hair reduction treatments, please remember to shave the day before or the morning of your treatment.

Please don’t hesitate to call or text us if you have any questions!
